Purple Frog is a laid-back café nestled on the beach at Taling Ngam, offering a peaceful retreat from the busier parts of Koh Samui. It’s a spot where the day naturally slows down, making it ideal for spending hours swimming, reading, or simply watching the sun dip below the horizon. The atmosphere strikes a balance between casual and thoughtfully curated — groovy, boho-style tunes add a gentle soundtrack that never overpowers conversation or the sounds of the sea.

The café attracts a mix of travelers looking to escape the crowds and locals who appreciate a calm setting with genuine hospitality. Staff here are known for being friendly and respectful, contributing to a relaxed vibe that feels both welcoming and unpretentious.

Outdoor seating right on the beach lets you soak up the afternoon sun or settle in for a sunset that many describe as well worth the evening visit. The beachfront access also supports light watersports, with kayaks and paddleboards available for hourly rent, providing a low-key way to explore the coastline before or after a meal or smoothie.

The menu isn’t overwhelming, which keeps the focus on quality over quantity. Smoothies, in particular, get positive nods as a refreshing choice. Drinks are thoughtfully prepared, with simple touches — like fresh cucumber slices in a gin and tonic — that highlight fresh, local ingredients without fuss.

Clean, well-maintained facilities, including restrooms, add to the comfort level, which can be an important detail for those spending a good portion of the day on site.

Best times to visit are during the afternoon into early evening, especially if you want to combine a relaxed beachside café experience with a memorable sunset view. Those seeking a spot where they can unplug, enjoy good company or solo downtime, and savor quality food and drinks without crowds will find Purple Frog hits the right tone.

I never write reviews but I can't get past this one. My first time on Koh Samui. Been to several cafes in Chaweng. Trust me, Purple Frog is the best Koh Samui cafe I've been to. The best food! The best service! Honor and respect to the founder! Be sure to spend one of your evenings and meet the sunset here.

This spot is so nice to watch the sunset during a sunny day. The toilets are clean and the atmosphere is relaxing.

VIBE - great bar/restaurant right on the beach. Chilled atmosphere, varied selection of food but not too much (like in most restaurants). We had intended to stay for one G&T, when that G&T came served with sliced cucumber so fresh it was amazing at 130bhat (16.02.24) we just had to indulge in another Great music, nothing heavy or over techno just the right vibe to make you sway. There's also kayak, canoe and paddleboard hire as well as a herb stall for those who wanna indulge, with cabanas and giant bean bags you could literally stay here all day and night capturing the phenomenal sunset. We're only here one night but will definitely be back when we take a week break here next month TOP RATED FOR FOOD, DRINK, MUSIC,BEACH LOCATION, SUNSET, WATERSPORTS & SUPER FRIENDLY STAFF ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Enjoyed some lovely sundown hours here. Staff friendly, calm atmosphere with groovy boho tunes at dusk hours. Kayaks and paddleboards available for rent (per hourly rates I believe). Great base to enjoy the sunset as well as mini explorations with watersport gears. Smoothies here seem to be the crown jewels of all the menus here. Then again, I am sure all the other food offerings are as enticing.

Having stayed in Taling Ngam for a week, purple frog cafe was the best beachside cafe bar! The food was tasty and the portions were generous. We would visit for brunch and end up camping out for the whole day, there were shaded beach huts which you could chill out in whilst you ate, relaxed and swam in the sea. We also hired a paddle board and were able to enjoy the sunset this way! Some evenings there was music which only added to the vibe!

I found this amazing spot by the beach and I just have to tell you about it. First off, the vibe here is unbeatable. You can kick back on these super comfy bean bags or choose a table under a bamboo roof which is a lifesaver from the sun. They have amazing smoothies. But here’s the cool part – they rent out SUP boards during the day which is so much fun. And as if that wasn’t enough, come evening, the place lights up with DJ sessions. It’s the perfect mix of relaxing and partying, depending on what you’re in the mood for. The music, the sunset, the ocean - it’s just magical. And, there’s this adorable corgi that just roams around greeting everyone. It’s like the cherry on top of the perfect day at the beach. Seriously, if you’re ever in the area, you’ve got to check this place out. It’s like my new favorite spot to unwind and have a good time. I am coming here from another side of the island to chill.
